Thank you for your email regarding the Pavement Parking Private Members Bill, due for its second reading in December 2015.
 
I will give this Private Members Bill serious consideration when it comes before the House of Commons and will certainly vote in favour of it should it prove to help make access to our public highways easier for disabled members of the public.

Thank you for your correspondence dated 10th May 2014 raising your concerns about the statements made by Mark Hackett, Chief Executive of UHNS, in relation to the financial feasibility of making better provision in car parking for disabled persons. Like you I am supportive of any attempts to make visits to hospitals that much easier for disabled people and their families and will continue to work with both Stand and UHNS to bring about a satisfactory solution to this matter.

Following my letter to UHNS sent on your behalf I have now received the following response.

I hope the enclosed response proves useful to you and helps to clarify the position of the UHNS with regards to the provision of disabled facilities on the site.

I am also awaiting the response from UHNS to my recent letter, sent on your behalf regarding the unreasonable distance disabled persons are expected to travel from the disabled parking bays and your suggestion of a new parking management system to rectify this. As soon as I receive a response I shall write to you again.

Following my letter to Mark Hackett, Chief Executive of UHNS, sent on behalf of you and other members of STAND I have now received the enclosed response.

I understand that this response will not satisfactorily answer all your of your points and I too still have concerns regarding the parking issues for disabled patients. I have a meeting with the Chief Executive next month and I will be raising this matter with him in person.

In the meantime I would be extremely grateful if you would review the response and write or email me with any further concerns that you or the other members of Stand have and I will ensure that each point is addressed by the Chief Executive and try to resolve this situation.

I am sorry to hear about the terrible problems that you and other disabled badge holders have been experiencing at UHNS. I am very concerned that the most vulnerable in society have been put under such strain to get the treatment they require.
