Issue: Disabled people being disadvantaged by having to use the pay and display system at UHNS.
Date issue was raised: 8th February 2014

Response to issue:

Dear Pam,
I have now had a further reply from Mark Hackett at UHNS, responding to my recent letter about the possibility of waiving charges for disabled visitors. I enclose a copy for your information.
As you can see from his letter, Mr hackett is insistent that the Trust cannot afford to waive parking charges as requested, because this would divert funds from diect patient care.
As you know, in my letter I did inform him that STAND was actively considering the possibility of seeking legal advice on the matter and I would be grateful, therefore, if you could ensure that your members are kept fully aware of his reply.
If you think I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact my constituency office on 01782 715033.
Best wishes and yours sincerely,
Paul Farrelly

Dear Pam,

I have just received the attached response to the letter I sent to Mark Hackett asking the UHNS to consider waiving parking charges for disabled visitors, at least until they have resolved all the parking problems on the site.

Unfortunately, the email sent by his office was largely a reiteration of actions taken by the trust previously and did not specifically address the question of waiving charges.

I have, therefore, written back to Mr Hackett with a request for proper consideration to be given to my request. A copy of this letter is enclosed and I will, of course be back in touch once I receive a further reply.

Best wishes and yours sincerely,

Paul Farrelly

Dear Pam

Thank you for keeping me up to date with the discussions that took place at your recent meeting and I appreciate the frustrations that you and your members feel about this issue.

I have now written to Mark Hackett at UHNS asking him to waive parking charges for disabled visitors at least until they can come up with a solution that will resolve the problem in the long term.

I have enclosed a copy of the letter for you information and I would be grateful if you could ensure that STAND is kept informed. I will, of course, ensure that you receive a copy of Mr Hackett’s reply in due course.

Best wishes and yours sincerely,

Paul Farrelly MP

Dear Mrs Bryan,

I have received a reply from the UHNS to my recent letter on your behalf and I enclose a copy for your information.

As you will see from the substantive reply, Mr Hackett has outlined in detail the areas where disabled parking is currently available and where further bays are being placed.

I was pleased to see from Mark Hackett’s letter that the trust do meet with STAND and have taken on board a number of suggestions that the group have made.

If after reading my reply, you think I can be of further assistance please do not hestitate to contact me constituency office on 01782 715033.

Best wishes and yours sincerely,

Paul Farrelly MP

Hi Pam,

It was good to see John Beech after so long – and we’ll write (again) to the hospital over this.

Hospital parking is a constant issue.

 All the best

Paul
